Open Air
A solo manifesting between a dancer and the ghosts of his father. In the presence of dense and cynical questions about the value of art, a son attempts to conjure something concrete from the open air—a dance perhaps. This piece accentuates the tense relationship between limits and freedom, orienting and getting lost, strict choreography and dancing with joyful abandon.
Come to the market of invisible goods. The wares are questions made of air, too heavy to transport yet lightweight for immediate use. From these materials you can build a house of transparent walls, reflecting ceilings and groundless floor. Adorn your space with rugs made of vastness, vases filled with crisis, shelves mounted in promise. Special hands will serve your special needs, pointing, punching, holding, conjuring. Precision is currency, but emptiness buys you everything.
The piece developed from the 10-minute audition showing for the MA Solo/Dance/Authorship program at HZT/UdK in January 2018. Special thanks to Jon Kiriac for supporting with the first residency after that at Kunstkooperative. Work-in-Progress showings have been in Berlin and include:
